PROJECT BASAL JIMAGUAYU
For Cuba, the confrontation to the climatic change constitutes a priority: The climatic change is aggravating and will aggravate in the future, the environmental problems accumulated in the nation, becoming step by step a determining factor of the sustainable development.
As part of the projects belonging to the United Nations Development Program, BASAL (Environmental Bases for the Alimentary Local Sustainability) and your Model of Environmental Orden (MOA) get in the island through the CITMA to contribute new and improved tools of work to our farmers and producers, choosing three municipalities that way of the country in your original process of implementation and priority support, The Palaces, Güira of Melena and Jimaguayú.
General objective of BASAL: Backing up the adaptation to the climatic change, contributing to the continued and sustainable socio-economic development of the Cuba.

The products waited for of this project are:
Applied measures of adaptation in the agricultural sector in the municipalities of The Palaces, Jimaguayú and Melena's Güira;
Implemented actions to consolidate of the information sharing and knowledge between actors key to achieve a better united confrontation to the challenges of the climatic change;
Once the state governments were delivered to tools and nationals to confront the impacts of the change and the climatic variability and to make more sustainable the production of foods.
The main target groups, that they will receive the positive effects of the project directly are peasants, cooperatives, the extensionistas of agriculture, the scientific and fact-finding institutes of the ministries of Agriculture, of Ciencia, Tecnología and Environment, and of Higher Education, the municipal and provincial governments, as well as drinkers of decision at a national scale. The final blunt and indirect beneficiaries will be the majority of 90.000 inhabitants of the 3 selected municipalities and the majority of 500.000 inhabitants closely 30-municipality add them with the ones that will share lessons and knowledge themselves and where activities of replication will be done.
The gender relation is integrated of cross-sectional way in the project, which represents an opportunity to go aboard the relation between the dimensions of kind and the climatic change in the agricultural sector.

The BASAL project, in application even the 2020, has the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, and his implementation is in charge of the Program of developmental United Nations, backed up for the Joint Research Center of the European Union, and the agency developmental Switzerland and Cooperation COSUDE.
The farm The Rebirth, led for the small farmer Andrés Pérez Posada and located in the surroundings of the Southern ring road, very near the Orquidiario of Camaguey (although it belongs to Jimaguayú's municipality), count on a total of 10,5 hectares, dedicated fundamentally to the fostering of pasture, forages and of sugar cane for animal food, to the silvipastoreo and to the planting of vegetables, viands and fruit trees.
